Moebius

Moebius, like Kain and Raziel, was designed after the version seen in the opening cinematic to Soul Reaver 2. We had the original model for reference made by GlyphX, which was a great help in making sure I kept that vision of him intact. When sculpting and detailing his head, I looked to images of Peter Cushing and his voice actor, Richard Doyle, as reference. Cushing’s distinctive sunken cheeks and other features are great visuals when making this old, decrepit, frail wizard. An awesome detail on the original GlyphX model was his elongated fingernails. Little touches like that add so much to his sinister look. His cloak retains the symbols seen on that model, plus some, as they needed a few more to continue down to his cloak’s coattails. Even as a more cloaked, subdued figure, he does have some flair to him. His pants, sash, and the trim around his cloak are made of fine silk. I also kept the chain with the diamond around his neck and added another chain lower to this, as I did on the modded texture work I did of this character personally years ago. It just adds a little more to flesh out the outfit. It was important to give him just enough of his eyes still showing that you can see he’s engaged and looking at Kain, or Raziel, but also to show the grayed over cataracts of his corneas that would have made a normal man blind by now. I am extremely happy with his results. He’s the old, devious serpent he should be in every way and it brings so much more to it seeing this character with Richard Doyle’s amazing performance!

I upgraded the staff from the one in SR2’s remaster, using it as a base. I added some extra details and upgraded the materials. We had more leeway with adding metallness shaders to these models in the game, which could allow for more complex reflections, more towards PBR-like mechanics and it makes so much of a difference on the orb's pearl reflectiveness and even the lacquered wood of the snake carving. In the core of the orb, I incorporated the hint of the Air Reaver symbol, as Daniel Cabuco revealed a few years back that the Air Forge was the origin of the Scepter and where Moebius was directed to find it by the Elder God. This was already subtly present in the original Soul Reaver 2 in the orb’s textures.
